Karen,
Hi! I don't know if I can make a connection with you, but I will
add my own story, and we can go from there. Benoni Gardner, born in CT in
1752, married Silence Grant, born 1758, in CT. They married in the late
1770s or early 1780s. They had five or six children. Known children are
Joshua, Lydia, and Thomas, and there may be more daughters. Benoni was a
Rev. War soldier for NY. Thomas was the youngest child and was born in
Pittsburg, PA in 1794. They moved to Marietta, Washington County, Ohio
shortly after this. Benoni left his wife and family and headed back to NY.
We suspect that he stayed there for quite a while. He filed for Rev. War
pension in NY in 1819, saying that he had been without a family for 24
years. Family papers state that Benoni showed up at the home of Thomas, his
youngest, in about 1828 to 1830, with a new wife and three young children.
I have never been able to find any information on Benoni's second family -
wife and children unknown. I wonder if your Rosanna may be a part of
Benoni's second set of children. It is said that Benoni died in Gallia
County, OH, but I have yet to find any evidence of this either. I haven't
been able to find much information on Benoni and Silence's children, except
for Lydia and Thomas. I descend from Thomas and have gathered lots of
information about him. We know that Lydia married George Nye and they lived
in Athens County, OH, until her death in about 1862. See what you think
about all of this. I do know that Benoni moved around a lot, as we find him
in CT, NY, OH, and PA, at the very least. I am looking for anyone else who
connects with this Benoni Gardner. Thanks!
- Jean Griesan
