Hi:

In Ryegate and Newbury, Vermont, in the late 1700s and early 1800s there
were "Hugh GARDNERs" by the haymow full. Some of them were Scots; all of
them were Scottish. One of them was a co-founder of the "Scotch-American
Company of Farmers" which were the original settlers of Ryegate just before
the American Revolution.
