Greetings:

** DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE REPLY GOES TO THE
LIST **

Subscribers are reminded that all discussion of how the list is handled
must be accomplished OFF LIST. I answer each and every message that is
addressed to me privately, as admin, and in such correspondence the list
rules do not apply.

A recent exchange between myself and another subscriber on list serves as
an unfortunate example. The subscriber's message had two problems, as I saw
it. Most important, the message was (in the face of my earlier reminder of
the list topic) a continuation of a thread that should already have ended.
GARDNER-L is not a list for the discussion of "all things genealogical". It
is for *GARDNER* genealogy, specifically. We do not discuss the best
genealogical software for PDAs, the Canadian census privacy controversy, or
other matters: *unless* they relate, directly, to finding and connecting
people who bore the surname GARDNER. Genealogy and DNA is one such topic.
The GARDNER DNA project was, and remains, on topic.

Secondarily, the message was inaccurate. One of the problems with off topic
messages is that they often contain errors of fact that the subscribers of
the list do not have the expertise to identify.

There was also a problem with my response. It said what I wanted to say,
but on rereading it I realize it was rude. That was not my intent. The
subscriber and I discussed this -- OFF LIST -- politely and calmly, and I
apologized for the rudeness.

Continuation of this issue on list will require me to take action. I trust
such will not be necessary. So now, back to GARDNER genealogy.

Darrell
