wonder why no one has ever heard of a Pleasant Garrison. I know the guy
couldn't have been a lone ranger with no relatives but I have searched
everwhere to find where he lived. He married a Martha? we think but at least
her last name was Youngblood as she was married to Wm Johnson YB first and
had 3 kids then married Pleasant. I am sure she would have married him in
AR. as that is where she lived at divorce time . abt. 1850 or up. I am
trying to find where they lived and what their children 's name was.
anyone help bill

>Will share what I have received from others. Good to share with you!
>There is a F. M. Garrison buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Plumerville,
AR. He was born March 14, 1853 and died Dec. 17, 1917.
>Also, on the 1900 census of Conway Co. AR in Howard township there is a
Frank M. Garrison born March of 1851. He has a wife Asula, 45, children
>Susie 15, Alvia L. 12, Oma 7, Burlie 3.
>In the same cemetery is buried Caleb Garrison and his son James Franklin
Garrison. James F. was born Sept. 13, 1827 and died March 1, 1901. Caleb
was born in 1789 and died 1862. I was at a special service of the setting
of a marker for him several years ago.
>Now, regarding the David Garrison you were inquiring about. We made a trip
to the cemetery where he and wife Mary Jane are buried. This is Nixon
Cemetery in Charlston, AR. There is one marker with his name on one side
and her name on the other side.
>The following information came from the 1898 HISTORY OF ARKANSAS
(Goodspeed)
> DAVID GARRISON
>Rev. David Garrison, a well known and prominent Minister of the Baptist
Church, and a farmer of Prarie township, Franklin Co. AR is a native of the
State of Georgia and was born July 13, 1820, the son of Caleb and Rachel
(Box) Garrison. The grandfather of our subject, Jedediah Garrison was born
in the Carolinas and was a descendant of five brothers, who migrated from
England to America in the early History of this country. These brothers and
their descendants took active parts in the early wars of the colonies for
protection and preservation of the Union. Jedediah seved in the
Revolutionary War and was also in the war of 1812 with his son Caleb; He led
an active life, was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and died
about the year of 1830.
>Caleb Garrison, father of David, was born in South Carolina. His home
until he moved to AR was GA and AL. He came to AR and located in Conway Co.
>David Garrison lived in his native state of GA until grown and in 1841 went
to AL where three years later he married Mary Jane Blassingame , who was
born in Madison Co. AL in 1827. To Mr. and Mrs Garrison were born ten
children, Thomas L., George W., Benjamin F., Rachel Emily, Jonathan A.,
James M., Christoper C., William J., Mary A. and Frances.
>Mrs Garrison and her daughter were devoted members of the Baptist Church.
In 1848, Mr. Garrison removed from AL to Leake Co. Miss. where he resided
until 1855, when he located in Upshur Co. TX. He was engaged in saw milling
and grinding. In 1860 he removed to Pine Bluff, AR and for two years turned
his attention to brick manufacturing, when he again went back to Grayson Co.
TX. He took and active part in the late war serving with honor and credit
in the Confederate Army under Gen. Cooper, until the close of the struggle.
>In 1865 he removed his family to Franklin Co. AR, locating on a farm where
he lived.(He was living there when this article was written in 1898) This
farm consisted of 270 acres with 175 acres under cultivation.
>Mr. Garrison was converted in 1852, and so earnest and enthusistic was he
that after a hard days work on his farm he would devote his evenings to hard
study of the Bible, and consequently soon became a Minister of the Gospel.
>He took a still more active interest in the Church work in 1872 and without
reward would travel miles through storms and cold across the country in
order not to disappoint some waiting congregation. He has made many
converts and surely his crown will be bright.
>David Garrison died March 25, 1898. Buried in the Nixon Cemetery,
Charlston, AR.
>Mary Jane Blassingame Garrison died August 5, 1899. She is also buried in
Nixon Cemetery.
>David Garrison, gave land for a school and Masonic Lodge in the little town
of Branch, AR where he lived just a few miles east of the town of
Charleston.
