WALTER WILLARD OWENS (March 27, 1914 – July 17, 2006)
WALTER W. OWENS, Age 92, of West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away under the loving care of his devoted children, and Hospice of Palm Beach County on July 17, 2006. Walter was born in Newington, Georgia on March 27, 1914 to the late Walter and Pearl (Hunter) Owens. In 1937 he moved to West Palm Beach to pursue a career after many years of working on the family farm and in the logging business. He met his loving and devoted wife, Mickey, at his first job, Palm Beach Bottling Works. He was called to war in 1944.and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, stationed in Italy at the end of World War II. His experience as a pilot and aircraft mechanic positioned him for opportunities as an equipment mechanic at both Neff Machinery and Griffin Equipment Co. In 1962, Walter opened Equipment Rental Service in West Palm Beach and operated the business until his retirement in 1981.
Walter was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Frances (Mickey) Owens in 2003. Survivors include: sons Andy Owens, West Palm Beach, Florida; Kenneth Owens and wife Libby, Dunellon, FL; Richard Owens and wife, June, Wellington, Fl.; Patrick Owens and wife, Achaphorn , West Palm Beach, Florida and daughters Helene Walker of West Palm Beach, Florida and Alice Stone, and husband Joseph, Fellsmere, Fl.. Walter proudly leaves fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to pay their final respects on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 1201 South Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida from 6-8:00 P.M. Walter will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery immediately following a service at 11:00 A.M, Friday, July 21, at Quattlebaum Funeral Home’s Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
