I don't know if you are talking about a Bateman, but there are Batemans
in Florida who are Apalachicola Creeks.

I would caution you to not think in terms so nearly restrictive as a
state, much less a county. The Creeks & Seminoles ranged very
broadly... and once fighting began some mixed bloods may have moved away
from it. One of my 2-great grandfathers was born in Florida in 1821 but
married in Wilkinson County, Georgia, in 1836. By 1840 he and his wife
had moved to Thomas County, Georgia, and they pretty much stayed there.
However, I have not heretofore "proved" that either were Creek and I
may never be able to do so as I find no indication that anyone in the
family ever "enrolled" once the government initiated that process. I
have found record of a "legend" of a marriage in Wilkinson County of a
Creek woman to a man that I believe to be my 4th great grandfather, but
to date I haven't been able to find any actual evidence of the
generations from 2nd to 4th grandparents. Somebody just told me "this
is it" with no idea where "it" came from. The term "source" seemed
unfamiliar to this person... <G>

I don't know what the previous writer meant to convey. There were two
spates of hostilities with the Creeks in the Southeast since the
Revolution... one just after the War of 1812 and one that kicked up
about 1836 (not to mention all sorts before then under various names)
and within those there were a few actual battles and any number of
incidents relatively isolated as to time and location. Often the names
of key places could have changed entirely as counties and towns were set
up in places that were previously Creek Lands.
