John Lewis Griffin was born 7/4/1845. Enlisted in 1863 as a Private, was
promoted to Sgt. within 3 months of his enlistment, which would indicate
that he could read and write. Served in both Co G and Co H. Fought at
Olustee, Petersburg, and the Crater. Surrendered at Appomattox 4/9/1865.

Documented through Roster

Married 1st Camilla Gabrielle Smith, daughter of Littleton Spivey Smith and
Mary Powell Hogue. Children were:

Jesse Irene Griffin
William Spivey Griffin
Fredrick Alva Griffin
Ida Rosalee Griffin
Louella Allian (Lilly) Griffin

Married 2d Sarah Frances (Sally) Murphy, daughter of John Washington Murphy
and Pharaby Hunter Hudson.
Children were:

Emory Griffin
John Livingston Griffin
Bessie Katherine Griffin.

John Lewis Griffin died 1/29/1915 of pneumonia, and is buried at Pleasant
Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, near Leslie, Georgia. He is buried next to
his first wife.
