Durden rites are conducted

SOPERTON -- Funeral services for Simmy Durden, 76, native of Emanuel County, were held last Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from Harmony Baptist Church near Soperton. The Rev. Foy Spivey and the Rev. Duel Keen officiated and burial was in the the church cemetery.
He died Monday night, Dec. 16. A retired farmer and member of Harmony Baptist Church, he had lived most of his life in Treutlen County.
Active pallbearers were S.D. Hanson, Bobby Durden, Thomas Banks, David Banks, Jimmy Banks, Eddie Banks and Kenneth Banks. Honorary pallbearers were Leon Thigpen, Earl Stanfield, Curtis Thigpen, Dr. William P. McNair, Esra Hanson, Sidney Sherrod, Pete Phillips and Joe Green. Survivors include two sons, Jim Durden of Savannah and Marvin Durden of Morganton, N.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Leon C. Hanson of Soperton and Mrs. Paul Banks of Charleston, S.C.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Sammons Funeral Home of Soperton was in charge of arrangements.

(NOTE: Three daughters are stated in obituary, but only two are listed.)
