Judge T.J. Blasingame Passes Away
Judge Thomas J. B. Blasingame died at his home in Zebulon Wednesday last, after
a three months illness.
He was born in Monroe county April 5, 1840, moved to Upson and went there to
the Confederate army as a member of Co. I, 32nd Ga. Reg. and lost his arm. He
became a Lieutenant in his company.
Soon after the war he came to Pike where he taught school for a number of years
until 1873 when he was elected Ordinary to fill the unexpired term of Ordinary
Eppinger who had died. He served as Ordinary, Tax Receiver and Clerk Superior
Court and made a splendid official.
He was married to Miss Celia Adams, sister of Mr. R.D. Adams in August 1864 and
to them five children were born, Jas. C. Blasingame, of Richmond, Va., Mrs.
Lena Ridley who died early in this year, Mrs. Sallie Coleman, of Apalachicola,
Fla., Richard Blasingame, of Atlanta, and Jack Blasingame. He is survived by
the following brothers and sisters: Benjamin Blasingame, of Ashburn, John W.
Blasingame, of Culloden, David A Blasingame, of Musella, Mrs. Elizabeth Waller,
of Zebulon, Mrs. Nancy Childs and Miss Mary Blasingame, of Musella.
Judge Blasingame was one of the best known citizens of the county and highly
esteemed for his many noble traits of character. Though he lost his arm in the
Confederate army, yet he was a man of wonderful energy.
He united himself with the Baptist church when a young man. His funeral
services were conducted by his nephew, Rev. W.W. Childs, of Yatesville.
His remains were interred by the side of his wife in Zebulon, who died many
years ago.
The friends of the bereaved family extend them sympathy in their sorrow.
