Hi Bill...I must've traveled through "Stephensville" a thousand
times as a child on the way from Dublin (where I was raised) to
my Grandfather's house (William Perry Lord). We would go North
on 441 to "Nicklesville." That's where state highway 121 crosses
441. If you turn left you're headed toward Allentown and
Danville. A right turn on 121 takes you past Big Sandy Baptist
Church and straight on to "Stephensville," where the 121
intersects state (or maybe county) highway 191, also known as the
"Balls Ferry Road" or "Old Toomsboro Road." Highway 191 pretty
much runs out right there, just before 121 crosses Big Sandy
Creek. And that's Stephensville. Used to be a big chicken farm
there when I was growing up, and just a couple of houses. (You
could smell it before you could see it, if you know what I mean!)
If you follow 121 on, you'll get to Toomsboro. We'd bear right
onto the old Long Branch Rd., and a few miles down it is where my
Grandaddy lived. Highway 121 is paved now, but when I was a kid
it was red clay dirt and treacherous after a rain! Many times we
had to get out and push the old Ford Pickup out of the ditch.
Anyway, I wish I could draw you a map, but today "Stephensville"
is just a couple of nice homes. I don't know who lives there,
I'm afraid.
By the way. Thank you for your comments on my VanLandingham
data. I've been trying to follow-up on the Macon County
connection of my VanLandingham/Tarpley branches, and your
information helped a lot.
