Ok, it gets a bit confusing but can be explained.
Daniel N. McCook b. 1847
married- Marzilla Wood b. 1857

Daniels parents were Daniel McCook and Artemissia Ballard
his Grandparents were J. Daniel McCook and Rachel Hamilton

Marzilla Woods parents were Lawrence Wood and Wealthy Lavender. and her grandparents were Levin Lavender and Charlotte McDaniel.

Charlotte McDaniel and Levin Lavenders two youngest children are the John and Sarah you are in question about.
Charlotte died in 1836 leaving those two babies and on the 1850 census they are found with the McCooks who have a grandson Daniel and wife Marzilla Wood. The only connection is this one to McCooks. The families must have been close and upon closer inspection, you find them in the same areas for a while.
Hope this helps.
My Bloodworths, Wood, and Lavenders are connected two or three places to McCooks.
