The 1900 Wilkinson County, GA census, dated June of that year, lists Daniel
Franklin Colson with wife "Mandy M." Colson (Joe Maddox says D. F. Colson
married a Milly Martin, but he is often wrong.) Other information in the
1900 census gives her age as 32, married 12 years, and the mother of 7
children, all living. Nellie Colson, born in Feb. 1900 is 4 months old.
Her mother was still alive at the time of the census. Other children listed
in the family are Carrie, Lillie, Mollie, Oscar, James, and Otis. In the
1910 census, Daniel Franklin Colson is listed as a widow. Sometime after
1920 married DeMarion Connell and had two more children, David Franklin
Colson and Mary Jane Colson, with her. Daniel Franklin Colson died in 1935.
His obituary in the Wilkinson County News, dated July 27, 1935, reads, in
part, as follows: "Funeral services were held today at Salem Church for D.
F. Colson, 70, a prominent farmer. He died yesterday in a Dublin hospital
after an illness of several weeks. He is survived by his wife; five
daughters, Mrs. J. T. Combs, Mrs. W. A. Womack, Mrs. W. J. Pitts, and Miss
Mary Colson, all of Toomsboro, and Mrs. R. L. Colson of Hazelhurst; two
sons, O. W. Colson and David Colson of Toomsbors. Interment was in the
church cemetery." DeMarion Connell Colson died in 1946 and is also buried
at Salem. My guess is that Millie/Molly/Mandy is buried there as well. Do
you know who her parents were? I have a Thompson line and can't place her
in any of the Thompsons I have record of.
