The mother of Martha Ann Brewer(wife of John Brooks) was Nicy Brewer, sister of Elizabeth Brewer. Nicy was born in 1809. Both Nicy and Elizabeth had children by Hymen Mercer. The marriage record for John and Martha shows her name to be Martha Brewer. She apparantly did not take the name Mercer.

Nicy Brewer went to Randolph county, Alabama at the same time that John/Martha(Brewer) Brooks and Isaac/Sarah(Brewer)Fort, along with many other Wilkinson county families, in 1859.

Nicy Brewer married a Bell between 1860-1870 and she is found living with her grandson James Wesley Brooks in the 1880 census(age 71). James Wesley was the oldest child of John and Martha.

Louisa Mercer was another child by Hyman and Nicy, as confirmed by a descendant.

I believe that Sarah, married to Isaac Fort, also to be a child of Hyman and Nicy and I suspect others.
