Date: 13 Nov 2000 08:23:46 GMT

Drop in on the Afro-American Historical & Genealogical Society, Inc -
James Dent Walker Chapter (AAHGS-JDW) in Washington, DC. AAHGS-JDW has
some exciting presentations coming up. Just look at what we have planned!

1. You've just found out that your great-aunt Ida has the only photo of
your great-great-grandparents. She will let you look at it, but you
can't take it out of her house. If you can't get Kinko's or Ritz Camera
center to come to her, how do get a copy of that photo without it leaving
her home? Come to our November meeting and learn how to use a camera and
portable copy stand to make a great copy. Learn by doing. Bring one
photo to be copied. Pick up your results at the next meeting - no cost to
you:

When: Saturday, November 18, 2000
Topic: Saving Your History Through Photography -
Presenter: Mr. Booker Brooks
Time: 11am-1pm
Where: Juanita Thornton - Shepherd Park Public Library
7420 Georgia Avenue NW
Washington, DC

2. Researching West African culture and your possible ties to it, but
have no clue as to where to turn? Come to our December 2nd meeting and
hear Wendy Wilson Hall, Ph.D., Director of the West African Research
Center (http://www.warc-croa.org/)in Dakar, Senegal discuss the center,
its purpose, and available resources. She will also discuss how she is
using her family research in her study of African Americans claiming
Malagasy descent as well as the 17th to 19th century movement of
Madagascan slaves and emigrants into the US. This is a specially arranged
presentation. We're inviting our fellow genealogy organizations to
attend. Don't miss out on this one!

3. December is the month for giving. If you could pick an ancestor and
give them a gift, what would that gift be? Honor your ancestor and
present him or her with that gift at our December 16th Kwanzaa
celebration. Wear African gear to help get in the Kwanzaa spirit.

4. Been thinking about purchasing genealogy software but don't know
which one to buy? Damita Drayton Green will take a look at PAF, Family
Tree Maker, and The Master Genealogist at our January 20, 2001 meeting.

All meetings above are from 11am to 1pm at the Juanita Thornton -
Shepherd Park Public Library, 7420 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington, DC. We
meet in the Activity Center room on the 2nd floor.

So spread the word. Bring a friend.. or two...or three. See you there!
