Dear Grady
I have been trying to piece together what you wrote below, and tie it in
with the information I have. I'd be very pleased if you and/or anyone else
on the list who has better information than I have could sort out the
following wheat from the chaff. I have cut and pasted the following from my
database, so I hope it reproduces.
Best wishes

.......< Big Snip > Gregory of Tours has this to say about him:

Which I think means "After this, Severus, his father in law (Guntchramn
Boso's) was the subject with his sons of a very serious accusation by the
king. Hearing this, he (went to) petition the king bearing a great amount
of gifts. Wherewith he was apprehended in the road, robbed and taqken into
exile where he finished his life in misery [I do not think that Gregory
necessarily shows dislike for Severus as that he believes a wretched end
must have a moral failing as a cause. Severus probably hoarded wealth in
this life and was a little to quick to bribe the king those Gregory at times
has shown acceptance of that and worse behavior in others] But to his two
children Burgolen and Dodo, they were put to death by the judges for the
crime of treason (Lese Majesty); one was forcibly suppressed by the army and
the other was aprehended in flight, had his hands and feet cut off,
perhished, and all that he had from his father was gathered to the royal
treasury. And he had indeed great hoards."

Burgolen was also married to Domnola, the daughter of Bishop Victricius of
Rennes who was murdered, probably by minions of Queen Fredegund, after
remarrying to Nectarius, brother of Badegisel, the late King Chilperic's
former majordomo (And according to Thorpe who made a translation of Gregory
the first Frankish majordomo known to history) and later Bishop of LeMans
following Domnolus. So much is known from Gregory. I do not know if
Fredegar or any one else has further to say about him so I was interested
what Mr. Settipani might have found. Severus may have been scion of one of
several Gallo Roman families still existing in the North (Note also in fact
Victurius, Domnolus, Germanus of Paris, Felix of Nantes, the unnamed husband
of Berthefleda sister of Bertram of Bordeaux, Bertramn of Lemans and
Aegidius of Rheims. The names I have mentioned here do not seem to be
southerners who are taking a traditional title in the north like Gregory or
Ennodius Duke of Poitiers). A possible reason for Severus bad fortune may
be that Severus was (probably) a devotee of Childebert and late of Sigebert
and when Chilperic took over this region following Sigebert's death he was
not able to immediately give up the good will of these people because of the
complicated situation concerning his sons and their rebellion and
Brunhilda'S plotting and so on. Once he had established himself in this
region there seem to be no end of scores he felt he had to settle though
perhaps I should be careful as the exact reasons in the case of any one
courtier may be complex......... < end of big snip>
