Can anyone tell me the meaning of "garde champetre" in Luxembourg in the
1820's. My dictionary says village policeman but a very knowledgeable
man who translated for me says forest and field guard. They seem to be
very different occupations so I'm hoping someone can clarify. Also what
would be the duties of a forest and field guard?
