Zou je de Swieringa Boeken kunnen raadplegen.

Thought this list of reference material published by Robert P. Swierenga
would be helpful to some of you.

1. "Dutch Emigrants to the U.S., South Africa, South America & Southeast
Asia, 1835?1980", published 1983. Can be found at the Cleveland Public
Library, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. ? Ref. 9C5 827.A1 589 and at Kent State
University Library, Kent, Ohio, U.S.A. ? CS 827A1589

2. "Dutch Immigrants in U.S. Ship Passenger Manifests, 1820?1880; An
Alphabetical Listing By Household Heads & Independent Person", published
1981. Can be found at the Cleveland Public Library, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A.
? Ref. E 184.D9 595 and at Kent State University Library, Kent, Ohio, U.S.A.

3. "Dutch Households in U.S. Population Censuses, 1850, 1860, 1870",
published 1987. It is a compilation from the mentioned censuses of all Dutch
families in the US, with a lot of additional information such as town where
they lived, occupation, age, number of children, country of origin of the
spouse, literacy, right to vote, number of years in the US etc. Only
contains counties with at least 50 Dutch born residents. It is a real
treasure trove of information. Swierenga also compiled a list of all Dutch
emigrants that went to the States before the year 1880.
Can be found at Kent State University Library E184.D95948, 3 vols.

4. "The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History" by David D. van Tassel & John J.
Grabowski, published 1987. On pp. 351?352 "Dutch" a 300 page essay by
Robert P. Swierenga.

5. "Dutch in Cleveland & Cuyahoga County, 1880", published 1992. (Derived
from the federal population census of 1880.) Family History Centers ?
US/CAN Book Area 977.131 X2s 1880.

According to Mr. Swierenga 15?80 percent Dutch persons left from Rotterdam.
Before the Civil War in the U.S., some people may have left from Amsterdam,
but after the Civil War most of the people left from Rotterdam to Hoboken,
New Jersey.

Hope this list is of assistance.

Groetjes,
Margriet
