I just returned yesterday from a month-long exchange student trip in =
Germany. The city where we stayed was Halle, in eastern Germany, in the =
state of Sachsen-Anhalt. The word B=FCrgermeister translates to "mayor," =
and we went to the city hall, or Rathaus, to meet the B=FCrgermeister of =
Halle the first week we were there. I'm not sure if the mayor of a city =
is called by the same name in other parts of Germany, however. I =
received the impression that it is a highly respected position. The =
title "B=FCrgermeister" is also used in reference to a head of a department=
=
for the city. For example, the "B=FCrgermeister" we met in Halle was not =
the true mayor, but the mayor of sports and education.
