I am looking for anyone who may be researching the SPADZINSKI or PLETZ
surnames from the area around Sierpc (Sichelberg), Poland in the late
1800's. I have a copy of a baptismal record for my wife's
great-grandmother Folorentine PLETZ who was b. 3 Jun 1878 in the small
village of Gozdy, which is just a little bit west of Sierpc (also known
as Sichelberg). On her baptismal record, her parents names were given
as Christian PLETZ and Julianna SPADZINSKI. We know that Florentine
had two brothers and two sisters in total, including a brother Stephen
who had a wooden leg. So far we have been unable to find out
anything further about this family. My wife's family was of German
extraction, and from what I know this village was settled largely by
German people. They considered themselves to be Germans or Prussians
even though this area was officially part of Poland (under the authority
or Russia) for most of the 1800's from what I can tell. There are lots
of PLETZ/PLAT/PLET names in the records for that area, but so far we
have not found further record of our Christian PLETZ. We have not been
able to find any other references to the SPADZINSKI surname as of yet.
Perhaps Julianna was not from that immediate area, or perhaps there was
some kind of a name change?
Florentine PLETZ married Rudolph KAMENTZ and had 10 children, many of
who emmigrated to America. My wife descends through Ottilie
KAMENTZ/KAMENS who was born 11 Jan 1904 in the village of Kugeln
(Gugoly), Poland which is just a little north of Sierpc. Florentine
also emmigraged to America and died in Cleveland, OH 22 Sep 1961.
If anyone is researching these surnames I would love to hear from you.
Regards,
Kevin Spaulding
