I have an ancestress in Glandorf [formerly Kingdom of Hanover] with the given
name of "Engel", but she was Roman Catholic. The reason I'm mentioning this is
to indicate that the given name "Engel" was not given exclusively to Lutherans.
I also have Luth
eran ancestors, as well as a wife who was raised Lutheran, but
don't find the name "Engel" among those ancestors or among my wife's forebears,
but truth is I don't have a lot of data on my wife's Lutheran forebears [she is
