People seem to be confusing "state" meaning "belonging to the state" as opposed
to "state" meaning "located in the state". German "Landeskirche" does not mean
a state-controlled or official religion (although the churches in Germany do
receive tax dollars), but the affiliated churches of the same denomination in a
given region.
