Dear Dianne,
Every source has valuable information. Some have more than others. Some
sources can be used to check back on other sources. It puts a limit on
frustration to have someone like FHC bring so much together.
The web site may be helpful to some. I find more information came from visits
to the Family History Center. In some cases I ordered the microfilms. In many
cases it is not necessary. It depends on how accurate you believe the prior
information to be.
In several cases I had "family" with the same last name (as below) in Germany,
with several generations. But as I read the church documents in Latin or
German, they were from another stream by the same surname.
In other cases I could confirm that other people, who were unknown to my German
cousins, were our relatives of 200 years ago. Reading the church wedding
documents, from FHC, showed who was at the wedding or the confirmation. In
fact one had the signature of my ggggrandfather and referred to my
ggggrandmother as the bride's mother.
It sure beats guessing. My German cousins have been amazed at my ability to
learn things they were not able to find. And I sent copies of the documents to
them, just as I sent copies of my other work for checking and applause.
FHC is great help, to go with other sources.
