The Lueneburg Heide has never been Mecklenburg; it has always belonged
to the various dukedoms and prinicipalities of the Welf-houses. And the
former kingdom and province of Hannover has in 1946 been united to Lower
Saxony together with Brunswick (another Welf-Dukedom), Oldenburg and
Schaumburg-Lippe.
