It may have some effect if you forward the offending post to the
sender's internet service provider abuse monitor. In this instance,
that provider is Prodigy, so you would address it
to "". If the ISP were AOL, it would be addressed
to "", usw. Insert a brief message to the ISP, stating
that the post is inappropriate, or offensive, or being cross-posted to
unrelated newsgroups. I have already sent 3 of this type of posts to
Prodigy, apparently to no effect, at least so far. It is my
understanding that the ISP contacts the offending poster and warns them
that they may lose their account if they continue. Unfortunately,
cancellation of one account does not prevent someone from opening
another account with a new provider, and so on, ad infinitum. Perhaps
the best action to take, in addition to notifying the ISP, is NO
action -- e.g., refraining from responding, which only serves to
perpetuate and refresh the post. Sadly, this is part of the price we
pay for freedom in the Internet. If all else fails, your newsreader may
have a feature that permits you to block certain types of mail from
being able to be viewed by you.
