D'yer suppose that's where Obed got the name for his son Jesse who begat
King David? Or Jesse Owens' parents for their son?
For the OP, since "Jesse" appears in the Bible I would assume Luther,
Melanchthon, or others brought the word into German a while back. I
don't know what it might be in German, however.
