Janet raised the question of sharing newsletters with other newsletter
publishers. I'm always willing to trade with others who have affiliated
families. In one case, I exchange copies with a man who does a family
whose name is very close to ours, and whose members lived in some of the
same places, so we discovered we were claiming some of the same people.
(The name I work with is DOSS, and I have found more than 40 spellings
of that simple four letter name, which itself is a misspelling of DAWS.)
It's very interesting to see how many differences there are in
newsletters. So far I have seen no two alike.
I wanted to share with the list a mailing I received yesterday. I got a
letter from Christine Rose who is a highly regarded genealogist, author
and speaker. She has been handling the Rose Family Association for
quite a long time. She wrote to me in her capacity as family
association coordinator for the Fed. of Gen. Societies. She writes a
regular column about family associations for their publication.
(Incidentally, I sent a press release about our recent reunion to the
Nat'l Gen. Society. Although they didn't run a notice about the reunion
(too late) they did mention us in their most recent newsletter. That
resulted in several queries, and caused Chris Rose to find us.)
The reason I bring this up is that Chris included in her letter a flyer
about books she has written. One is entitled "Family Associations:
Organization & Management" -- here's the blurb, "Revised and enlarged
edition... all you need to know from preliminaries and organization to
filing systems, assisting members, cost cutting, fundraisers,
newsletters, the Family Gathering, sample by-laws, tax exempt status,
etc. This is not just for beginning organizations, but includes many
ideas for those already in existence." The cost is $12.75 plus $2.50
for shipping, plus $1.02 sales tax for California residents. Write to:
Christine Rose, Rose Family Association, 1474 Montelegre Drive, San Jose
, CA 95120-4831.
I haven't seen this book, but her work is solid and I think this would
be well worth the price.
