HI: We just started our county genealogy group in Nov. of 97.
1. Be sure that your dues are high enough to cover printing, envelopes,
POSTAGE & POSTAGE, on the Quarterlies that you will be sending. Our dues
are not covering our 40 page publication and Postage........We have asked
the local members to pickup their copy and have eliminated the envelope to
save on some postage. (we hope). Besides the Quarterly mailings, you will
have queries, membership cards/receipts and other misc. mailing throughout
the year.
2. Volunteer help is needed--Besure to have at least 3/4 people on the
Quarterly publication.
3. Don't publish anything in the Quarterly that you intend on publishing as
a book (at a later date) as people won't buy what they already have.
4. Set up a web page for your County. We have had more memberships from
the web than I ever expected. Check out our web page (we're new at it but
learning) www.carolnet.com/ccga and www.carolnet.com/cchs .
5. Start your members on a publication book as soon as possible in order to
bring in more funds.
6. Contact your local State Archives to set you up on applying for grants
to mircofilm records that you collect and have a place to store them.
Hope this helps. Virginia
