Subject: Gen-Editor-L List
Date: Mon, 30 Mar 1998 15:15:23 -0500
Hi All,
I'm a little quiet these days but I did want to
clarify the subject about the purpose of this list. I started this list,
I
guess it's been almost a year ago now, for the purpose of all those
who edit and publish genealogy newsletters, etc. (of all kinds, both
postal and internet) to discuss all subjects relating to the work. Start
up, marketing, publishing, article ideas, costs, etc. My thoughts at
starting this kind of a list was to have a place for all interested
and/or
active in the process to have a group with which to juggle ideas,
methods,
hints and all the other aspects of the genre.
I guess you could call it a 'support group' for genealogy
editors/publishers. Personally, I edit a small newsletter that is a
rather
dear project to me (see my sig. below). I was lucky enough when I
began it to have access to a couple of wonderful people through
email who helped enormously with the start up. I thought that a
mail list would make this help available to all who might be considering
starting a newsletter as well as a group for those who already publish
one.
Thus began GEN-EDITOR mailing list.
And what a great group we are!
I think that a place for all of us to list our newsletters and
their
specifics out on the web would not only be a great idea but good
marketing sense.
It would be nice to see a 'genealogy newsletter directory' or some
similar project
on the web. Maybe those who have web pages for their newsletter could
even
link to the directory.
There is a publication out (sorry, I can't think of the specific
publisher
who creates it...) called 'Family Associations.' I believe it is a
sibling project to
'The Genealogists Address Book'. Wouldn't it be nice to see a listing of
that sort
for newsletters on the internet?
Sincerely,
Pamela G. Hurak
