The Sacramento German Genealogy Society (California) proudly presents
our Sixteenth Annual Seminar on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the La Sierra
Community Center, 5325 Engle Road, Carmichael (northeastern
Sacramento). Registration opens at 8:00 a.m. The program runs from
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a lunch break.

"On the Trail of Our German Ancestors" features well known speaker and
professional genealogist, Roger Minert, Ph.D., A.G. of Salt Lake City,
Utah. Dr. Minert conducts genealogical research in Salt Lake City and
in Europe, lectures on German research, and provides translation and
interpreting services. He is Associate Editor of the German
Genealogical Digest (a quarterly journal published in Salt Lake City).
Dr. Minert speaks German fluently, and spends at least one month a year
conducting research in Europe.

The event will include morning snacks and a beverage, a surname bulletin
board to allow for sharing of genealogical information, vendors with
genealogical material (including Dr. Minert's books), and a syllabus.
You may bring your own lunch, or for $6 you may pre-order lunch (a deli
sandwich [choice of ham, turkey, roast beef or veggie], chips, cookie
and a drink. Lunch must be pre-ordered by the registration deadline of
March 31.

Fees are $20 for pre-registered SGGS members, or $25 per couple. (If
you join SGGS when you pre-register, you are eligible for the lower
seminar fee. Dues are $20 for an individual or $25 for a couple.)
Pre-registered non-members are $30, or $40 per couple. Early
registration is recommended since seating is limited. Pre-registrations
must be received by SGGS by March 31. Assuming space is available,
admission at the door is $35 per person.

Topics: "Welcome to German Family History Research!" (pointers and
cautions on conducting German research); "How Can Tiefendörfer and
Diependerper Be the Same Family?" (German phonetics and spelling of
personal names); "Record, Record, Who Has the Record?" (locating German
church and civil records); and "Conducting Research in Archives and
Parish Offices in Germany."
