<< Learn, While Being Entertained, at the Austin Genealogical Society Annual
Seminar on Saturday, August 18. Our Speaker, Henry Z. Jones, FASG, has been
a professional genealogist since 1965 and gives lectures at all major
conferences across the U.S. Two of the six books he has written are the very
popular Psychic Roots, which were featured on television's Unsolved
Mysteries. His other books deal with his continuing in depth research of the
Palatines.
However, you may recognize "Hank" from one of his many roles he played
during a 25 year span as an entertainer on television comedies, commercials
and the movies. He began his career as the co-star of the old daytime
Tennessee Ernie Ford television show while beginning a recording career;
currently, he has released one (maybe two by August) new CD's of old
standards. In 1963, he began performing in television shows such as The Love
Boat, The Jeffersons & Mork & Mindy. A few of his movie credits include
Disney features such as Herbie Rides Again & Blackbeard's Ghost as well as
the WWII drama, Tora, Tora, Tora.
What a great bio. However, be assured, that he is also an outstanding
genealogy lecturer; Hank is a Charter Member and former Director of The
Genealogical Speaker's Guild. His passion for genealogical research began at
an early age when he found an old trunk filled with fading tintypes, family
letters, and old newspaper clippings in the basement of his parents' home in
San Leandro, CA. He wrote his first genealogical work A Few More Left: The
Story of Isaac Hillman , his great grandfather, while still in high school.
Hank continued to pursue his genealogical interests while attending Stanford
University, from which he graduated in 1963.
Henry "Hank" Z. Jones has not given a lecture in or around Austin in many
years; we are looking forward to his lectures. Although his specialty is
Palatines, his topics will cover a broader range from which every
genealogist can learn. The registration flyer is included in this month's
newsletter and is also posted on our web site: www.AustinTxGenSoc.org. More
information on our speaker is at www.hankjones.com/
