Subject: [GEN-EVENTS-L] This evening's Oxfordshire FHS AGM
Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2001 22:59:36 +0100
Following a quick AGM at the Exeter Hall tonight, the seventy or so OFHS
members present enjoyed a splendid presentation about a website known as the
"Cumnor Parish Record". We heard from John Hanson, who is the local
historian behind the site, and David Price who designed and constructed the
technical side of the site. The URL is :-
http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/external/cumnor/index.html
Cumnor is now in Oxfordshire, but until 1974, it was one of the most
northerly outposts of Berkshire. Even if you don't have Cumnor interests,
this site is well worth looking at. It is very well designed, and has loads
of content. Hence, it serves as a good example of how to design a local or
family history website.
Finally, for those who have metered or particularly slow access to the
internet, the contents of the website is available for £4 on CD. Details as
to how to order this passed me by, so I would suggest that any interested
party sends an e-mail to David Price by clicking on his name on the homepage
of the site. Obviously, users of the CD would miss out on the updates to the
site, but some researchers may prefer to use the CD version.
