Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX

Saturday, October 14, 2006

Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium

2:00 p.m.

Speaker: Donna Ingham

Program: "Don't Forget the Stories"

Donna Ingham is a Texas storyteller and author whose repertoire includes
personal and family narratives. Her presentation will illustrate ways to
combine oral histories, primary source elements, and historical research to
create powerful stories.

Donna is a humorist and folklorist who takes the ancient art of storytelling
and gives it a Texas twist to entertain audiences of all ages. She presents
tall tales, folklore, historical and personal stories told as only a Texan
could--or would. She is a former college professor with a Ph.D. in English.
She also offers workshops, master classes, training and in-service sessions
as well as age-appropriate programs for elementary and secondary schools. As
a published author, she brings an added dimension to her school visits and
both entertains and enlightens audiences at book festivals and conferences.

Donna achieved national recognition in 2003 as one of six tellers invited to
appear on the National Storytelling Festival's Exchange Place stage. She
continues to tour beyond the borders of Texas, performing at festivals and
conferences and offering arts residencies and workshops.

In 2005 Donna had published Tales with a Texas Twist and she has more Texas
tidbits in two new books: 1001 Greatest Things Ever Said About Texas (Globe
Pequot/Lyons Press 2006) and You Know You're in Texas When (Globe
Pequot/Insider's Guide 2006). Ask for them at your local book store this
fall, or order them on-line. They're coming out just in time for Christmas
giving!

Donna has also recorded several audiocassettes On the Trail Tales (2000) and
Texas (&Texanized) Myths & Legends (2001). Donna had produced one CD called
Texas Family Album (2002) with another due out in 2007. You can find more
information on her books and recordings by visiting her website at:
