I have researched my surname and know that it is of Acadian descent and
that they arrived in the new world in the early part of 17th century. I
also know from research that a ship pacted with French engages led by
Pierre du Gast, Sieur de Monts and Samuel de Champlain, royal
geographerlanded in 1604 on Acadian shores. Also on present on this
journey was the shipowner from Saint-Malo, Dupont-Grave'.
I understand that Dupont is an extremely common name in France. My
concerns are as follows:
Where in France did the imigrating Dupont's come from?
Were there others with the name Dupont that migrated to the Canadian
coast or was it just the shipowners from Saint-Malo?
