Just a little information abou the way the Archives are ordered in France.
Archives are gathered in each department (several in each region) and
ordered by parish and after 1792 by city with mostly a different register
for each year.
To give an idea, there is nearly 100 departments and more than 35,000
cities. Brittany is 6 or 7 departments. How many cities? How many centuries
of archives? at least 5!
Messages like "looking for Le Floch in Brittany" without a city (or even
department), without a year (or even a century) for a typical an common name
for the region is worth than "looking for Brown in New England".
There is good will people around, but please try to help them to help you.
