Dear fellow subscribers:
Does anyone with knowledge about French passports have an answer for
my friend M'Lisa? You can send a reply to her directly or to me and I
will forward it to her.

Gail, I have a favor to ask ...

I would like to know if you can post a query on your French list for me. I
have just found out that my 3rd-gr-grandfather went to LaHavre, France, in
1834 and applied for his passport to the US. He lived in Lancashire, Eng,
at the time, and I don't know why he had to go to France to get this
passport. I have the passport # and the date, but I want to know how to
find the record.

On March 29, 1844, James Greenhalgh applied for his passport in LaHavre,
France. It was passport #274. He immediately sailed from LaHavre to New
York.

I've posted the quesition to the UK&I (you probably saw it), but haven't
gotten an "serious" replies. Would you mind? Maybe some of your French
researchers will know the answer.

Thank you!

-- M'Lisa
