I am trying to trace back my roots, and have run into an
interesting wall.
My surname is Aubry. My father believes that our ancestors
came from France (the town of Nancy in Alsace) to eastern
Canada sometime during the 18th or 19th centuries. He has
gone up to Napierville in Quebec but was unable to locate
any local records. I am a total novice, and am hoping someone
here can steer me in the right direction towards my next step.
The interesting wall also contains the fact that Aubry could
be a French mis-pronounciation of the Irish O'Keefe. Does this
sound likely to have happened in Canada?
I look forward very much to your insights, and thanks to all in advance.
