Here is what I find in Jetté, under the marriage of François MELOCHE to
Marie MOUFFLET in Montreal on 25Oct1700.

François MELOCHE was reportedly 24 year old in 1700; by inference, and
assuming his age as given in 1700 was correct, that would place his bith in
approx. 1675 or 1676. [Note: In fact, it has been established since Jetté's
publication that he was born on 11Oct1676 in Fontenay-l'Abbatu,
dsewux-Sèvres: go to http://www.genealogie.com/cgi-bin/fo/afficher.cgi?ei
and look under MELOCHE)

He was the son of François M. and Thérèse HERNU. And he was from the city
and bishopric of LaRochelle, Aunis (today Dept. of Charente-Maritime). He
was a land labourer.

François' father was also François MELOCHE, once a merchant at Bourdet
(Deux-Sèvres) and later a "voiturier" [I am not sure how best to translate
this: a "transporter of goods by carriage" or more ;likey "by boat", I
guess] at Fontenay-l'Abbatu, Fontenet, Charente -Maritime. He was first
married to Marie PELLOQUIN, and then to Thérèse HARNU. His marriage contract
to Thérèse is dated 14Apr1663 before Notary Savin in la Rochelle. François
died "before 1701".

Thérèse HERNU's parents were Massé HERNU, son of Michel HERNU & Anne HAY)
and Mathurine MALLET.

PRDH does not cover marriages in France, as far as I know. But i stand to be
corrected.
