Hi fellow sojourners in our mutal French Heritage!

After two years of hairpulling and fruitless searching, I finally have success in
finding an ancestor's place of birth in France!!! Lillers, France in Pas-de-Calais! (I
feel like I just struck gold!

This is my line as I know it today:

Jules Nicolle born January 3, 1848
married Vitaline Galicher
had
Louise Nicolle(b. in France)
Leonie Nicolle " "
Daniel Nicolle b. in Canada

Vitaline Galicher Nicolle dies somewhere between 1882-1885 in Canada

Jules Nicolle then marries Justine Morinier/Mourinier/Maronnier (and other alt
spellings) in Canada 1885

Justine Morinier b. July 16 or 15, 1865 in Belgium
sister: Mathilde Morinier
Father:Leopold Morinier

Jules and Justine Nicolle then had:
Emile Nicolle b. in 1892
Maximilen Nicolle 1895
Mathilde Nicolle 1898 (my grandmother)
Albert Nicolle 1899
Bernadette Nicolle 1904

all in born in Michigan

Louise Nicolle marries Leon Garnier in France
has:
Leon Garnier born 1898 in Lillers, France
Vitaline (Lynn) Garnier b. France (probably Lillers)

Leon migrated from France to Detroit Michigan where he petitioned to become a
citizen in 1938!(Bless him!) I received those papers today. I've been told so many
places where my g-grandparents and family came from: From Bordeaux all the way
to Alsace-Lorraine...

My questions are:

1) When I order the birth registration for Leon Garnier, will the birth places of his
parents also be listed?

2)Did every citizen have or need a passport to leave the country?

3) Did a lot of Belgians migrate to that region and if so, namely what part of Belgium
did they come from? (Namur, Leige...??)

4) What Port would someone from that area use in order to sail to North America in
the 1880s?

I guess that's it for now..except would any of the French listers here be able to help
me draft a letter in French?

Thanks to all!
