Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to encourage all who have "outstanding"
requests for "Form SS-5" to the Social Security Administration and
for copies of birth/death/marraige certificates to civil registers.

My first request for Forms SS-5 was in February and I
finally received them in August--6 months later!! But....not before
I sent a copy of my original letter with a note about the status of
my request. They actually called me at work and told me that they
were swamped and to rest assured that my request be honored. I
don't know why, but my subsequest requests have taken an average of
2 weeks.

As for the civil registers. I'm researching my relatives in
Spain in the towns of Marin, Pontevedra; Blanes, Gerona; and Mataro,
Barcelona. My requests for records to Marin take an average of 5
months whereas my requests to Blanes took 2 weeks. My request to
Mataro is presently outstanding now for 3 months--I'm keeping my
fingers crossed.

I can only guess that it's probably how well or not the
office is staffed. I've found that it doesn't hurt to be very
polite in my letter and always thank them in advance for their
"promt attention to my request".

Good Luck to all and regards from New York, Evette.
