Well, more seriously:
Some people have dated the name even in the roman time, but the first
demonstrated reference is from a document of the king Garcia (930), where
there is a "Muinno Barba". It seems two descendants of him were Roberto de la
Barba & Rodrigo de la Barba who received a privilegium of the king Bermudo III
of Leon, in 1035. A son of one of them was Pedro Barba, 1st Lord of
Castrofuerte, who started the House of Castrofuerte.
Rui Garcia de Villamayor married with N. Barba, and one of their sons was
named Rui Barba: it seems it is the origin of the legend about the battle od
Las Navas de Tolosa.
Those data have been taken from the "Enciclopedia Heraldica y Genealogica"
written by the brothers Garcia Carrafa.
