Good evening,
I have been doing family research for some time, and after I married a
whole new world opened up to me. My wife is of Mexican heritage and I
have been trying for a long time to locate her ancestors, but it seems
they can only be traced to the point where they immigrated to the
United States (California and Arizona) between 1900 and 1930.

What I want to know is; how do I go about finding these people before
they left mexico and their mexican ancestors prior to their
immigration to the United States around 1900. Also, to what extent was
vital records kept before 1900 in Mexico? Were censuses performed like
they were in the United States and other countries? I know my wife's
family originates around Miochi, Chihuahua and before that (before
1700) from Spain. How high should I get my hopes about finding anyone
other than those living family members can remember?

Thank you very much for your attention,
Ken V. Nordberg
