The 3rd Ed. writer's rather simplistic though accurate diagnosis of
the peace-loving, hard-working Mexican and Mexican-American is
accurate, but woefully incomplete.

Mexicans-Americans of past and present have served as solid
contributors to the American culture and defense. Mexican-Americans
have served in all of America's wars, including our War of
Independence. Mexican-Americans have also given life and limb in our
drug war.

Having had a something to do with the creation of D.A.R.E., let me say
that I could never have sold D.A.R.E. to Mexican-American Los Angeles
police offices without the tireless contributions of Mexican-Americans
in the private sector. One such person was actor James Edward Olmos.
Eddie Olmos gave of himself time and time again to promote D.A.R.E. to
the Los Angeles community. And once D.A.R.E. was accepted locally,
Eddie helped to make D.A.R.E. known nationally.

Of the Hispanic population in our country, Mexican-Americans are the
fastest growing minority ethnic group. Some may view this as a threat,
but the educated among us see the continuing expansion of
Mexican-Americans as simple Biblical and human history... Mexicans are
direct descendants of Japanese immigrants who began coming to America
over 12,000 years ago. Some Japanese immigrants went south into what
is now known as Mexico while others traveled into what is now known as
Canada, while still others spread across what is now known as the
United States... forming countless varieties of "Indian" tribes and
cultures. But of all the numerous ancestral Japanese who spread across
the North and South American continents, none achieved the scientific,
cultural or social heights of the ancient Mexicans.

The Bush family was wise to incorporate Mexican genealogy into their
blood line. In time, all American families (with the anticipated
exception of Jews) will incorporate Mexican genealogy. This is as
inescapable and certain as history was certain and future will be
certain.

I agree with the writer who said that we have nothing to fear from our
Mexican (and Mexican-American) Americans. Mexicans are American. They
were American before America. And like African-Americans,
Mexican-Americans do not claim purity of blood line.
Mexican-Americans, like African-Americans, accept everyone and
discriminate against no one. They are a happy people. We can learn a
lot from them... perhaps if we did we would have a far peaceful world.
