Yes, "bracciale" means landless or landpoor agricultural worker. It is still
used in Southern dialects, although standard Italian uses "bracciante" or
"bracciante agricolo" nowadays. I assume you already know what "Miale" means.
(Take comfort, my name means the same thing in Medieval Danish.)
