Both Baione and Baioni surnames are relatively common in Italy. For
example, there are 15 Baione and 30 Baioni in the telephone directory
of Rome. In ancient Italian writing, the letter "i" before a vowel was
formerly replaced with the letter "j". The surname Baione is very
frequent in the Basilicata region (Southern Italy). BTW, there is a
village named Armento in the province of Potenza of the Basilicata
region. It is about 75 km south east of Potenza, in the Agri Valley.

The true spelling must be Mastropietro. This surname is very common in
central Italy (it means "a master named Peter").
