I also have several sets of double names in my Sicilian tree - Sansone Zodia, Mercurio Longo, and
Ardizzone Caito. The explanation I received from Termini Imerese was that the original of these
names was a joining of two families - Sansone and Zodia, etc. Then to keep that branch separate
from other Sansones or Zodias, the used the combination of the names.
