Hi! where did you find "Our Italian surnames?". ? I'd like to check that
site out myself.
My Grandfather, GGrandfather and GGrandmother were from Arena, Catanzaro
Calabria Italy.
Do you have your GGrandparent's dates of birth? you could try writing to
Calabria to the Stato Di Civile. you can use Bill Girimonti's web site to
generate form letters. I don't have the URL handy, but maybe someone else
on the list could post it. here at work, I don't have access to the
internet, just e-mail. you can also try searching the Italian white pages
to find some other people in that area with your GGrandparent's names, and
send some letters to them too. Also, the Family History Center has filmed
records for Calabria, you could check out their site and see if your town
is there.
Good luck!
Mary Calabrese
My grgrandparents came from Calabria, Roggiano Gravina to be exact. The
surname was Sciammarelli. I have checked "Our Italian Surnames" and didn't
find anything that seemed to pertain to our name. I would be grateful for
any
ideas as to what the meaning might be, or where I might do some further
researching.
Thanks for any and all help.
Sue
