I am LDS (Mormon) and you can get as much information regarding our Church
practices from www.mormon.org as you desire.

Linking families together is part of our religion, as we believe we will be
with our families throughout the eternities. Obviously, those who are living
and are baptized make that decision for themselves (we believe in free
agency). We do baptisms for the dead, by proxy, but with the belief that
each individual will have the opportunity to accept or reject that baptism
that was performed in their behalf (the free agency thing again!). There are
many people much more knowledgeable about the subject, but we do not believe
that our will for these people will take precedence over their own desire.
We do not believe that we have "changed their religion," only that we have
made the way possible for them to choose, as the ordinance of baptism must be
done here on earth.

I hope that helps.

Sharon
