Dear Sharon!
To my limited knowledge what's in the Vatican libraries has all been
published! That's how we know most of what we know about Ancient Rome
to begin with: through the Vatican libraries & other church holdings
throughout Europe.
Now if you want to get some real information that isn't publish, start
bit-hing about the archivio di stato di Napoli. They're holding on to
the tax census ordered by the future King of Spain Carlos III. He
ordered tax census for all his property from Abruzzo to the SW tip of
Sicily in 1742. It was completed in 1753. Books talk about these
catasti onciari, but no one has ever printed them in any language!!!
After 2 months, the head of Naples archivio gave me a price for 3
volumes for 3 small towns where my gp's & other relatives came from.
Price: $600; time line: maximum 6 months; media: microfilm that I
can't read anymore. Do they know how I should pay them? No.
Forget the Vatican--it's all been printed. Attack Naples!!
