I have heard/read that numerous times from people
living in america and those living in foreign
countries. In Italy today, during a woman's
lifetime her legal name is always her 'maiden'
name..until it is put on her gravestone.
This is only one example: My paternal grandmother
died at 97 in this country, in the year 1974, never
did she use her 'married' name...
We have friends that travel to the home comune 3
times a year, they have told me all the women in
this particular (I will not say all) comune, go by
thier birth names. So I would say it is 'more'
common than not.
