Subject: CARR'S FERRY - George Carr of Salisbury
Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2002 06:13:12 -0500
Among the genealogy and history books at http://www.essexbooks.com
THE FERRY AT CARR'S ISLAND
Traces the history of the George Carr's ferry between
Newbury and Salisbury. This ferry service was a point
of legal battles for years from the 1650's to its
discontinuance.
Contenders for control of ferry service between the two
shores, in addition to George carr and his heirs, were
Tristram Coffin Jr., Captain John Marsh and Edward
Sargent. An Interesting history which includes a brief
descendancy of George Carr down to 1848.
Facsimile reprint extracted from Ould Newbury,
Historical and Biographical Sketches, John Currier,
1896.
